High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
"I find the extracurricular activities such as chess, coding, sports very useful for the community. The music programme and offer of string ensemble has been excellent.” — a parent of Enfield Public School
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
"The school has a very good balance of academic initiatives for the older children and alternatives through sport and other opportunities such as choir. The size of the school allows for all teachers to know all students and this level of dedication and knowledge by a staff team for its pupils is very rare and I believe has enriched my daughter's educational experience. Enfield has developed my daughter into a confident girl who is excited about entering high school - I am grateful to Enfield for what it has given her as she is a good learner but also importantly she is mature socially and ready for future challenges.” — a parent of Enfield Public School
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Enfield Public School, we believe that high potential and gifted education is part of everyday learning. Many of our students demonstrate strong potential, and we are committed to helping that potential flourish.
We recognise and nurture the abilities of high potential and gifted students, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to thrive. Our teachers use evidence-informed practices to identify student strengths, extend learning and provide appropriate challenge through enrichment, extension and, where suitable, acceleration opportunities.
In our supportive classrooms, students feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to take risks, think creatively and collaborate with others. Our staff engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure we meet the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.
Our school recognises that every student is unique, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and develop their strengths both inside and outside the classroom.
At Enfield Public School, we offer a wide range of programs that support student growth and engagement. Students can participate in enrichment and extension opportunities such as debating, coding club, maths club, chess club, LEGO club, strings ensemble, choir, dance, and other creative and academic activities.
We encourage all students, including high potential and gifted learners, to take on leadership roles through the Student Representative Council, gardening club, and peer support program. Student talent is also celebrated through performances, visual arts showcases, and music ensembles.
Additionally, our students can take part in various sports and physical education programs, ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to shine in their chosen areas of interest and ability.
Our students have access to a wide range of statewide and network programs designed to extend and enrich their potential.
Through the support of the NSW Department of Education, high potential and gifted students at Enfield Public School are encouraged to participate in programs such as the Premier’s Spelling Bee, Gimbawali, Symphonia Jubilate, Festival of Instrumental Music, Premier’s Sporting Challenge, PSSA, Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition and Koori Connections, as well as other Strathfield Network school initiatives.
These opportunities allow students to develop their talents, build confidence and connect with like-minded peers across a variety of academic, cultural, creative and sporting pursuits.
